SSC CGL Eligibility Criteria

It is mandatory for every candidate to adhere to all the eligibility conditions else you will not be allowed to fill up the application form. The Age limit criteria may vary from category to category. The physical standards eligibility is only for those candidates who apply for the post like Inspector, sub-inspector & others. If any candidate is found ineligible by the authorities after submitting the application form, he/she may have to face the legal consequences.

Age Limit:

I am discussing Group Wise SSC CGL age limit criteria and for other factors. SSC CGL has divided into four groups A, B, C & D. As per SSC CGL notification, the minimum age and maximum age of a candidate varies for the different-different post. Age Relaxation:

SSC CGL allows for age relaxation in the upper age limit for few categories as follows:

  • For ST/SC - 5 Years
  • For OBC - 3 Years
  • For PH Candidates - 10 Years.
  • For ExS (Ex-Serviceman) - 03 Years after deduction of the military service rendered from the actual age as on the Closing date for receipt of application.

Educational Qualification:

Candidates must have a bachelor's degree from any recognized university. You can apply for the SSC CGL exam if you are in the final year of graduation and are waiting for the result, but you will have to complete your graduation degree before the SSC CGL exam. Some post requires special qualification in SSC CGL exam. The details of required SSC CGL educational qualification 2018 are given in the following table below.

Bachelor’s Degree in any subject with Statistics as one of the subjects at degree level.

Physical Standard:

The physical standard is required only for a few posts like Inspector, Central Excise or Sub Inspector in CBI (Central Bureau of Investigation), NIA (National Investigation Agency) or in CBN (Central Bureau of Narcotics). A test called Physical Standard Test (PST) is conducted to ensure the physical ability of the candidate and it is a part of the recruitment process.

For the post of Central Excise/Examiner/Preventive Officer/Inspector & Sub-Inspector in CBN:

(Height relaxable by 5 cm In the case of Garwali’s, Assamese, Gorkhas and members of Scheduled Tribes.)

2. Weight 48 Kgs.

(Weight by 2 Kgs. for Gorkhas, Garwalis, Assamese and Members of Scheduled Tribes.)


Physical Test

1. Walking: 1600 meters in 15 minutes.

2. Cycling: 8 Km In 30 minutes.

1. Walking: 1 Km. in 20 minutes.

2. Cycling: 3 Km in 25 minutes.


For the Post of Sub- Inspector in Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI):

3.Vision

(a) Eye-sight (with or without glasses) Distant (b) vision: 6/6 in one and 6/9 in the other eye. (c) Near vision 0.6 in one eye and 0.8 in another eye.

1. Height – 150 cm

(Height relaxable for Hillsmen and Tribal: 5 cms.)

2. Chest –  There shall be no such requirement in case of a female candidate.

3.Vision

(a) Eye-sight (with or without glasses) Distant (b) vision: 6/6 in one and 6/9 in the other eye. (c) Near vision 0.6 in one eye and 0.8 in another eye.

For the Post of Sub- Inspector in National Investigation Agency (NIA):

2. Chest –  There shall be no such requirement in case of a female candidate.

Nationality:

Applicant should be:-

  • An Indian citizen 

          OR 

  • A subject of Nepal/ Bhutan 

          OR

  • A Tibetan refugee who came over to India before 1st January, 1962 with the intention of permanently settling in India

          OR

  • A person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia and Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India.

However, candidates (except for Indian Citizens) shall be a person in whose favor a certificate of eligibility has been issued by the Government of India. A candidate in whose case a certificate of eligibility is necessary may be admitted to the Examination but the offer of appointment will be given only after the necessary eligibility certificate has been issued to him by the Government of India.
